A Message from Council Chair Edward P. Burroughs III

 

Dear Neighbors of District 8,

 

It is with great pride and a deep sense of purpose that I share with you the launch of the District 8

Senior Support Fund, a nearly historic $5 million investment dedicated to honoring your lifetime of hard work and service.

This initiative—funded by casino impact dollars from MGM National Harbor—is designed to assist thousands of District 8 seniors who have earned the right to age in peace and dignity. Through this program, help is available for property taxes, mortgage payments, rental support, utility bills, and grass-cutting services.

 

I understand that for some, a program like this can’t entirely erase financial burdens—if you’re facing thousands of dollars in outstanding costs, this fund may not cover your entire need. But make no mistake,

every dollar is meant to lift the weight and give our seniors a moment of relief and security. This is just the

first step in a broader mission to support you.

 

You have built this community with your hands, hearts, and years of dedication—and that deserves both our respect and our action. This Fund is my way of saying thank you, and to reaffirm my promise that we will continue to find ways to honor you and protect your legacy.
